Knot Right!

During my hike in Patagonia last year, I tripped and fell on my face as I was leaving the campsite. The fall was hard enough for me to remember six months on. I have since discovered that I could have escaped flattening my face and ripping a hole in my favorite pants had I known which knot was best suited for my trek. Gosh. But I’d just accepted until 33 that some people fall down more often than others. I thought the trick was to learn how to fall with ease and grace then wear the bruises like a familiar accessory. So imagine my reaction when I found a website showing more than one way to tie your shoelaces properly. Apparently it is easy to make secure knots from your shoelaces that are also easy to undo, without the help of your teeth. Also, certain knots are good for trekking while others are good for a black-tie evening at a charity ball. Go to Ian’s Shoelace Site created by Ian Fieggen, he who loves knots. The website will show you how best to lace your shoes and what sort of knots are easy to undo. He includes a list of how-to's on Top Knot Hits like the Halloween Knot, Surgeon’s Knot, Turquoise Turtle Knot, and my favorite, Loop the Loop. And it gets better. Ian even has a Shoelace Knot Ratings page as well as a Shoelace Poll. Answer four questions and the Number 1 Top Knot Hit will appear before you. Go crazy!
