Searching for antiques in Shanghai
Yesterday's Shanghai adventures revolved around porcelain and antique furniture. Most of our destinations were massive warehouses packed with beautiful armoires and tables and chairs and beds... Several highlights were Henry Antique Warehouse and Hu & Hu. Although my wife and I have a short list of items that we would love to find for our home, the adventure was less "shopping" and more museum-like looking and learning. My brother and sister-in-law purchased a handsome pair of traditional chairs and a side table, but we collected visual snapshots and memories. Absolutely stunning furniture (as well as plenty of reproductions, sometime as stunning as the originals, other times considerably less impressive.)
We also oggled tons (figuratively and literally) of carved stone statues, troughs, etc. We fantasized about a pair of carved lions! A late lunch of Spanish tapas washed down with a foxy Nero d'Avola at Azul Tapas Lounge and bountiful local fare for dinner continued the parade of excellent meals we've enjoyed since arriving in Shanghai!
