Taipei Garlic Chive Turnovers
Lucky me. I live just down the street from a food vendor who sells these garlic chive turnovers. The owners wheel their "shop" to the sidewalk around 3:00 in the afternoon and usually sell out by 5:30. I always get there early, otherwise there's usually a line. Some people park their cars on the side of the road and shout, "Boss! Give me 10!" Others wait eagerly wiping their dribble with their sleeves, like me. Biting into one, the crispiness turns quickly into a chewiness filled with flavors from the garlic chive, chopped scrambled egg panfried to a golden brown, and tiny dried shrimp and vermicelli to really create a complex texture and taste. It's 2:30pm. Time to run.
