Squaw Valley Skiing: Day and Night

Today was "move out" day for our housemates who'd come out to Tahoe for Chris and Paul's wedding, but needed to fly back to Colorado for work and "real life". We're staying on through Thursday and don't need to move over to our new on-hill accommodations until tomorrow, so we said our good-byes and headed off to Squaw Valley for a glorious afternoon of skiing under bluebird skies. The mountain was virtually empty all afternoon because everyone was indoors watching the Super Bowl. We focused on the upper mountain and even skiied on into the evening once the sun went down. We stalled for a bit at the summit to enjoy a panoramic sunset that couldn't be beat, a thousand shades of peach, pink and orange veiling the snowy peaks around us. Squaw keeps several runs open until 9:00 PM, so we decided to keep practicing our technique until we were cold enough to ski on down the illuminated Mountain Run to the base. We headed off to a pasta supper with the bride and groom's family and turned in early.
