I just received this photo from a friend with whom I worked at the
US Open in
2004 and
2005 on the
US Open "banner crew". We were responsible for installing and maintaining all of the advertising flats, banners, etc. during the annual snowboarding extravaganza. But neither of us were there this year. He writes:
"I take a year off and the US Open goes to $%&#... Observe the sloppy signage!"
Of course, he was being funny, but I'm guessing he might also be feeling a little nostalgia for the good old days But who's keeping track? I have to admit, I was pretty ready to take a break (Why? Read last year's "
Behind the US Open" and my
2004 US Open review...) after volunteering on the banner crew for two years, but when the
Burton US Open 2006 kicked off on March 14 I felt a little bummed to be toiling away in
Gotham City instead of soaking up that clean Vermont air and oggling insane snowboarding stunts. I checked into the
Burton US Open 2006 website periodically to watch things like the
Halfpipe Finals and
Halfpipe Qualifiers / Quarterpipe Finals. I also took a gander through my
2005 US Open photo gallery. But that's just me!
